MacBook Air 15-inch retails for about $2100- $2700 depending on the storage size. at the time of writing this. This repair has cost $584 inc gst.
Here is a good example of the value in being able to repair logic boards in newer MacBooks. More and more we are finding that our job queues consist of logic board repairs, this mainly being due to integrated nature of today’s laptops. Logic boards contain more components, including data storage so any data recovery generally requires the motherboard to be repaired.
It is often the most cost effective way of repairing the MacBook given the price of the replacement boards or the whole MacBook replacement.

Tech’s note:
Sighted the issue.
I did a SMC and PRAM reset but there was no change.
Connected an external HDD and booted into that but the issue was still there.
Created a new user temporarily but the issue still happened when logged into a different user.
Opened up the macbook and didn’t sight any liquid damage. I cleaned out the dust while I had it open.
Disconnected and cleaned the speaker connections, then re connected, but there was still no change.
In the setting the speakers are showing up as connected.
The customer reported that audio through bluetooth is still working. This is because there are two different chips on the board for audio.
The battery is at 127 cycles and showing normal health.
In conclusion the macbook has logic board damage and will need to be repaired or replaced. Repairing the logic board is the cheaper option out of the two but can potentially take longer.
21/10/2025 – Looking under the microscope, liquid damage was found on the logic board; it is concealed beneath the metal shielding (Photos taken). Logic board repair has been completed. Sound tested OK.
