Is it cheaper to Repair or Replace an iPhone?

This is the question we often get when our customers consider their options.

In terms of cost, it is definitely cheaper to repair then to buy new iPhone. At the time of writing this, new base iPhone is about $1600 while three year old refurbished model is about $700.
In terms of value for money, we like to contrast repair option with buying a refurbished iPhone.
For example, if a three year old iPhone needs repairs:

  • Screen replacement is about 40% of the price of the refurbished model.
  • Battery replacement is about 25% of the price
  • Charging port is about 25% of the price

These are the three most common repairs.
So, the answer is, if your iPhone needs two repairs, for example screen and a battery, it is still cheaper than buying equivalent refurbished model. Even doing all three repairs still lends you just below the purchase price of a equivalent refurbished model and the bonus is you still have all your data and settings.

TIP:
When replacing a cracked screen, always ask for a discount on the battery replacement. Doing the two repairs at the same time saves technician’s time so discount is due. You will know if the battery needs replacing by looking at the battery health status. Any battery with less than 84% battery health is better replaced,
